Harry Murton was a member of the Toronto Tecumseh

Harry Murton was a member of the Toronto Tecumseh Lacrosse Club. In his diary in 1906 he reflects on his life as a lacrosse player and makes some interesting observations about his team-mates. Murton was a member of Canada’s 1932 Olympic Lacrosse team and an honoured member of the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. From Harry’s diary on July 4th 1906... “We lost our game in Cornwall on Monday by 9-3. Toronto lost on the same date by 6-5.
I often pause to reflect what a strange life I lead and how far I have diverged from the quiet studious life which I lead in Fergus. It is hard to understand the atmosphere of sporting life. I used to think that lacrosse would be a mere side-line in my life a mere means to an end but it is impossible to play lacrosse professionally without making it the main interest in your life at least for the time during which you play. I am in a certain sense isolated in the crowd. The fellows are sharp and generally speaking, though rough, good hearted and lively. But none of them are educated and have any thoughts beyond the day’s interests. Their subjects of thought and conversation are purely worldly and are mainly concerned with the games, a discussion of the different players and the day’s events which will assist them in putting in their time” @ontariolacrosse

The history of lacrosse in Toronto dates back to 1

The history of lacrosse in Toronto dates back to 1890. One of the early clubs in Toronto were named the Toronto Tecumsehs. Locally, the Toronto Lacrosse Club, Tecumseh Lacrosse Club and University of Toronto’s Varsity Club were rivals to teams from Montreal and from across Ontario. One of these players Charlie Querrie managed the Toronto Maple Leafs before Conn Smythe when the Leafs were the St Pats. Conn Smythe is often credited with naming the Maple Leafs even though there is ample proof that the Maple Leafs were the idea of a famous lacrosse player. Today the Toronto Beaches continue to build on this rich history of the game in Toronto. #ridethetide @ontariolacrosse @mimicolax @beastathleticscanada @mimicojra

We are excited to announce the addition of Luc Mag

We are excited to announce the addition of Luc Magnan and Stephen Keogh to the front office.

The pair of alumni will serve the leadership team as special advisors— providing counsel and support on club related matters as we plan for return to play in 2021.

Magnan and Keogh are teammates with the Halifax Thunderbirds in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) and are well-known leaders in the Toronto Beaches lacrosse community. Keogh is a Toronto native who grew up playing lacrosse in the Beaches. He has just completed his ninth season in the NLL and eighth with the Halifax Thunderbirds (formerly Rochester Knighthawks) franchise. Magnan is a native of Pine Falls, Manitoba going into his sixth season in the NLL. In February 2020, he was named to the Toronto Beaches Junior A bench as an assistant coach. @hfxthunderbirds @ontariolacrosse
